Revisiting Old Posts

Interesting going through some of the old posts here. This dream lines up with a lot of what's going on in the world today:

Been a while...

Fascinating, trying to pick up from wherever I left off... post in June 2011 said I'd be posting about a decision in July, which didn't happen here. Found the info over at my other journal:

- cut back on time spent on FB (did for a while, but now it's one of the ways I keep in touch with some local people)

- Cleaning, sorting, and packing  to clear working/thinking space

- Announced stepping down as baron and baroness and got the election process started.

- Began house hunting in earnest

2012

Spring - Early Summer - tried to go to herbal school but couldn't handle the physical component on top of work at the farm. House hunting continued.

Made bids on a couple of houses in 2012, backed out on one that is _still_ on the market. The place does have potential, for the right buyer.

Withdrew from bid on second house in the summer when things got weird with the sellers' realtor, saying that with the work that we'd have to still have to do on the house and barn, we couldn't really bid more than X amount, which was lower than the sellers wanted. Then in the fall, the same week I said "Wouldn't it be funny if they called and said they'd take our preferred amount as an accepted bid?"  -- they called and did just that.  So, after some minor kerfuffles (like the sellers botching trying to fix the basement stairs), we closed on December 12, 2012.  Moving in has been slow, what with tons of snow and other fun weather -- very much a winter and spring like back in the 70s.

Went to some kung fu classes in the fall and winter, but not much.

2013 - So far

We are living at the new place in Apple Valley. Lots of stuff still at the family farm, lots of stuff in boxes, much work to do in that arena.  No food beds here, just one flower bed and a couple of raised beds on the road side of the house, so we'll need to build some beds for gardening.

Going to kung fu classes more often, although not the past couple of weeks because of the housewarming, followed by putting my back in spasm and not being able to take anything for it because of prep for colonoscopy.

I turned 50, and had my first colonoscopy. I think I'd like to do something with croning, but have to read about it. Certainly getting older should be about more than just adding a test to the list.

Started on the Temple path with Druidharper, Jeni, and Sylvari.  Not sure where that's going to go, but it seems to be helping with my getting going creatively, as has moving to a place of our own. Still meditation is still hard, but worth it.

Going to keep at it -- really enjoying getting through some old projects as well as new ones.  Making the space for drawing again -- very much looking forward to that!  Yes, mostly I talk about other things like weaving, kung fu, etc., but that is never far from my thoughts.

Working on balancing things so I can do more of what I want and need to do.

Changes

Standing in proximity to S's staff, I half listened to the conversation with S and L (good, since I was part of it), and half listened to/felt the message/energy I was getting. A reminder of things happening and things to come, feeling all that is waste or excess burning away, leaving me lean and harder than I am now. Or than I appear to be...

More diet changes coming, personally. Still all the sorting/packing to do. I wish sometimes my and L's path were more parallel to S's... it would be nice to have the company. You would think I'd prefer to stay in one place, above all else, but I'm not for any one path really.

Decision Made

Can't announce it yet as there's research to do first, but we finally made a decision that will change a few things.... announcement in July.

Focus - Um, what?

That's a project all right, just writing down a list of what we're doing these days and what we have plans for - just the list, not even making decisions about what to keep or not.

Even without the world going the way it is, we're all getting older, things are getting more challenging to do, time to do things is less than it was. So.... how important is it to learn, for instance, to can food, vs. other activities? My mom canned years ago, and her opinion then as now is that it isn't for everyone, and that one should focus on the things we are meant to do.

I know I need more practical skills, even though I've a few under my belt. But which ones? And what about weaving, illustration, songwriting, etc.? At a meeting last week people were mostly focused on what most folks would consider the basic necessities of life - food, water, shelter, clothing, etc. But that is merely survival. The arts are part of living, and just as necessary.

That said, a poem will not necessarily put dinner on the table.

Too much on the life "plate", need to find the right balance of all the different things....

April 4 2011 Dream

Originally posted on April 4, but to the wrong blog:

I came into a room and was talking to L about something we needed to do (list of things, really), and then the cats in the room I'd come from got my attention so I started to go back there, but they were warning me about something coming. A large heavy green snake, about 4 feet long - maybe 5 -- came out and jumped up at me from the ground. I stepped back to one side to avoid it, but it caught its fangs in the sleeve of my sweater. I then remained completely still, figuring that if I moved at all it would sense the muscles of my arms and sink its fangs in. It dropped to the ground and the dog standing by L looked at me then walked up to it and grabbed it just behind the head.

Other details... there were several cats, but in particular I remember Roz, Pussyboots (my family's first cat), and Nicky. Nekko and Issha might have been there but I'm not sure.

Pussyboots was a black/grey tabby. He followed us to the public pool one day and then likely got picked up and adopted by someone. My mom kept trying to get him to 'go home', but what she should have done is picked him up and put him in the house. I was probably 5-6 at the time. Nicky was a black&white we picked up at the SPCA; he traveled with us to Massachusetts. He stayed with us longer, until some neighbor tried to poison squirrels and ended up poisoning our poor kitty. I saw him once after that, napping on the floor against the wall of the dining room just inside the door from the kitchen -- gave me a double take, but there was absolutely nothing there that could have been mistaken for a cat, just wall-to-wall carpeting. Family didn't know what to make of that, but I remember looking for him from time to time.... I think he just wanted to let us know he was okay where he was. And of course Roselynde was with me for 22 years; I'm pretty sure she still checks in once in a while.

The dog looked similar to the farm's dog, Duke, but slightly blunter face, slightly longer coat, and younger. L says that sounds like a golden lab.

I tried to remember what we'd been talking about, but the snake really shook me up. Its head was almost as large as my own fist and the body was close to the same diameter as my wrist.
